"Grand Opera Hall guest house" is the Jin Merchants' Club 300 years ago. The name of Grand Opera Hall was inscribed by Mr. Qigong, a great master of Chinese culture . It has become a unique and precious work of Mr. Qigong. The Grand Opera Hall guest house is located at the Nine Dragons of Pingyao ancient city, with Confucian temple and God of wealth temple in the west, Kuixing tower in the South and ancient city wall in the East. It was built in 1703, the 42nd year of Kangxi. In order to welcome the emperor to visit the west, four big buildings and music hall were built. In the 26th year of Guangxu, Empress Dowager Cixi and Emperor Guangxu traveled to the west to enjoy the opera and stayed in the Grand Opera Hall.

I’ve been traveling in different countries and staying in different hotels across Europe and Asia for the past ~15 years. The Drama house hotel is among the few that made me want to sit down either at the lobby, or at the inner court, just to enjoy the atmosphere. The staff were also very friendly and helpful, assisting also with the pickup and drop off from the Pingyaogucheng station (not to be confused with the nearby station). Location is also superb. Definitely recommend the hotel as well as Pyngao.

Location was great, walking distance to everywhere within ancient town. Hotel buildings were historical and so beautiful that we felt very lucky. Hotel crew were kind and helpful, they also provided a free pick up and drop of for the train station. Our rooms were decorated traditionally and were both facing a historical inner court yard, which was just wonderful. We also enjoyed the show during the dinner at the big authentic theater.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming place located right in the heart of the ancient town. The large, beautiful courtyard provided a beautiful scene and the pick-up and drop-off service was really convenient. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and we were even given a lovely farewell gift. The flexibility of being able to leave a day earlier to visit another city was also thankfully no problem.
While the buildings are historic and full of character, it does come with the challenge of less soundproofing in the rooms, which led to some noises like talking at night. However, this is entirely understandable given the age and historic value of the building. Overall, it was a great experience.

Great authentic experience at this hotel in Pingyao. This was a perfect choice and I would definitely come back to same location.
You feel as part of ancient time: room decorations and also inner courtyard is wonderful.
Breakfast is mainly Chinese style but you can find good options even as a foreigner.
They also provide you with a nice business shuttle from the station which is more than welcome.

A fantastic stay which truly puts you in the mood of Pingyao Ancient City. I received a very welcome room upgrade and had a splendid time. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, offering a pickup/drop-off service to/from Pingyao station.

Clean, with no cigarette smell, and an excellent variety of Chinese breakfast options, along with enthusiastic and very kind service. There is a car pick-up at the train station. Frontdesk also offers a ticket to see the show inside the property. Excellent location and atmosphere for Pingyao.

Pros: The hotel itself is beautiful. It is in the old city, picturesque, great front desk staff, breakfast included.
Cons: Tour groups are constantly coming in, with big groups descending on the hotel and being noisy during the day and night. Additionally, people use it during the day to take princess photos — again noisy and no privacy. Beds are rock-hard and extremely uncomfortable — the most uncomfortable mattresses I’ve slept on so far and we’ve been traveling across China for close to a month. No real coffee with breakfast, just 3-in-1 instant, partially because of tour groups I’m guessing.
I would not stay here, unless of course you’re looking for some fabulous Instagram pics rather than a peaceful night’s rest.

Location is good, just at the entrance to Ancient Town. Hotel under renovation and quite messy. Front desk are very helpful. Free pick-up and drop off from airport or high speed train station. Driver are very punctual.
Room has individual air-con unit which can set cold or hot air depending on season.
Room are a bit small compared to the photo on Trip.com.
Free breakfast buffet ends at 9.15am and the food selection are quite limited.
